I guess I ought to quickly wrap up last weekend, before I embark on this weekend.
So, after a late Friday night out, naturally we decided to go to wine tasting early the next day. Woodinville is a little town about 30 minutes north of Seattle where they have over 80 wineries. The grapes are mostly grown in Eastern Washington, but they do the fermenting, aging, and (most importantly), the tasting in Woodinville. We started off at Chateau St. Michelle, which is Washington's oldest winery and sits on a beautiful estate. Apparently they have awesome summer concerts there, so maybe I'll have to try and catch one next summer. Afterwards we had a fabulous, long lunch (with wine, of course) on the breezy wrap-around porch at Columbia Winery.
It was such a gorgeous summer day we decided that we had to hit up one more place; Brian Carter Cellars. When we walked in, the tasting room looked pretty crowded and it was kind of hot and stuffy. We noticed they had a huge shaded terrace that was completely empty so we assumed they must not do the tastings out there, but it never hurts to ask, right? The woman working there was so lovely, she said it was no problem and she would just come outside and give us all our tasting pours. Wow, those people stuffed inside are suckers! Eventually, as everyone saw us leisurely enjoying ourselves outside they caught on, and joined us.
There are SO many wineries there (and the Redhook Brewery) that I will absolutely have to make a return trip or two. That would be a perfect thing to do with an out-of-town visitor, *hint*hint*. There's only so much you can do in one day though and we were getting hungry again, so we couldn't think of a more perfect way to wind-down the afternoon than a picnic on my rooftop! As we were enjoying our snacks and wine, guess who starts texting Christie?? Sy, from the night before! Unfortunately none of us were very good at thinking up witty, suggestive texts, but at least we managed to make plans for the night.
We hit up one bar, which I hadn't been to before and it was very chill and cool, but we were looking for a little more excitement so we've moved on to the next place. We still hadn't met up with Sy and his friends yet, so as soon as we got to the second bar, Christie immediately found a couple of dudes at the bar to pounce on. It turns out they were both married, but were very nice so I ended up catching with them for a little while, until something odd caught my eye.
A group of people walked into the bar and several of them were wearing eye patches. If you see one person with an eye patch, I guess that might be normal, or if they had been dressed up like pirates I wouldn't have thought that was strange. Anyhow, I guess I must have been staring, because one of the guys came up to the bar to get a drink and asked me, "Are you talking about my eye patch?" Oooops. Busted! It turns out one of his friends had been in an accident and had to wear an eye patch so a bunch of other people had brought them to wear in solidarity. I thought that was a really cool idea and very nice of them. I remember in 6th grade my little brother threw a teddy bear at my eye and it scratched my cornea (when I go to the eye doctor's office apparently the scar is still visible). I had to wear a dorky, white gauze patch to school and it was so awful! I wish my friends would've all done the same thing :)
Sy and his buddies eventually showed up and although there were no love connections that night, Saturday still ended up being another late night. So, Sunday was a total relaxation day; I barely got up off the couch and caught up on all of my reality tv. Eventually the ladies and I met up for some thai takeout and a little more reality tv at Leslie's house. It was the perfect way to end the weekend and Leslie and I will both be think happy thoughts for Christie to move up to Seattle.
