I very much enjoyed my 3-day weekend, followed by a 3-day work week, followed by another 3-day weekend, but now its back to the real world which is why this post is a little belated.
Jennifer flew in last Thursday evening and as I was waiting in the terminal for her flight, I notice an odd pair of guys filming the airport. The cameraman kept moving his camera from one side of the escalator to the other, from the tripod to the floor, pointing up then pointing down all while the other guy seemed to be taking notes. Naturally I had to get to the bottom of this strange behavior, so I asked the note-taker, "What are you guys doing?" He looked at me and then very matter-of-factly said, "We are waiting for someone from Germany, are you waiting for some from Germany?" "Oh. Uh, no" I answered. Well, that explains that!
It was sooo exciting when Jennifer finally arrived; it was absolutely fabulous to see her again! I was expecting her to be totally wiped out from the flight and time change, but she was ready to get her party on... well, at least ready for a nice bit of dinner at a place around the corner. The restaurant wasn't too crowded so we tried to make a little pleasant conversation with our waiter, but he seemed utterly terrified. He was nervous and awkward and acted like we were going to bite him or something. It was super funny, but also pretty confusing; I don't think Jennifer and I make a particularly frightening pair.
All that was forgotten when our appetizer arrived: pancetta-wrapped dates filled with mizithra cheese and topped with a balsamic reduction. OMG! These were so amazing we actually went back to the restaurant again on Sunday evening so that Jennifer could have a few more bites of perfection before she flew back to Virginia. At least now I can be sure that she'll come back to visit me again... even if its only for the dates ;)
As the evening wore on, our waiter finally seemed to loosen up a little and when I told him that Jennifer was visiting from out of town, he asked her, "Oh, are you from Boston?" I think this would've been hilarious under any circumstance, but after a glass of a wine and with Jennifer being a little loopy from the time change, we were practically rolling on the floor laughing. Realizing that he had made a mistake, he tried again, "New Jersey?" Barely being able to speak through the laughter we did our best to explain that she was from Virginia (and wearing a VT shirt). Since he was apparently from Miami he commiserated with her about the stress of cross-country flights and advised us both to take drugs before getting on a plane, he even knew a guy who knew a guy if we needed a hook up.
The restaurant serves water out of these nice large, antique-looking glass bottles with cute hinged stoppers. They're cute, but I never would've paid much attention to them until we caught the table behind us stealing one (with the help and consent of our waiter) who told them to, "keep it on the deezy-easy". We figured that must be equivalent to "the down low". We were already growing pretty fond of our crazy waiter, but that just pushed it over the edge. At the end of the night, as his other table was leaving and we had just paid our check, he came up and gave both of us giant high fives to celebrate the fact that his shift was over. Unfortunately, when we went back on Sunday he wasn't there, but I'll have to be on the lookout for him from now on.
Like I said on fb, after only a few hours we were having an amazing time, but it's getting late in Seattle and I have a big day at work tomorrow (I'm booked solid from 8:30am to 5:00pm) so the adventures of JNo and Amandizzle are to be continued...
maybe i'll finally be done with school in august and i'll be able to take a mini vaca up to seattle :)
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing so hard that someone thought that Jennifer with her southwestern Virginia accent was from Boston or New Jersey. Hilarious!
