So... about the hotel. I can't really tell which will be easier; booking hotels online ahead of time or just finding places as I go along. I think both options have their virtues. Booking ahead means being able to price compare and looking at all the amenities, but it also takes away my flexibility. I was browsing hotels online this morning (I mean, what else would I be doing at work???) and I went on Priceline. Now, I have tried to use their "name your own price" feature before and they always reject it. For those of you that haven't ever done this, basically you type in the price you want for a flight, hotel, etc. and then you also have to put in your credit card info. If they "accept" your price they automatically charge your card and book it.
As some of you may know, I'm a complete brat when it comes to hotel rooms. I have a germ phobia when it comes to porous surfaces so I'm terrified of hotel beds. For some reason I have no problem eating food off the floor (at least at my own house) or walking through the lab grabbing chemicals with no gloves, but the thought of sleeping in a cheap hotel? No way! So of course I was looking at the fancy hotels on Priceline. My first stop is Knoxville, TN and the price for a downtown, 3 star hotel was $127. So I said that I wanted it for $80 assuming that they would just reject it like they always do, but...
"Congratulations, your offer has been accepted! Thank you for booking your hotel with Priceline."
Crowne Plaza Knoxville here I come!
