My New City

I spent yesterday being a bit of a tourist.  I figure in a few months it will be totally uncool of me to do these things, so I should take advantage while I still can.  ;)  I started off at Pike's Place Market.  I had actually been there before, but it seemed like a good central starting off point.  The market was pleasantly calm at 11:00am and there is a full mix of people selling handmade goods, touristy souvenirs, and farmer's market items like meat and veggies.  I didn't do any actual shopping, but it was still fun to just look around.

I left the market to explore some of the nearby city.  I know (or at least I think I know) that I want to live in the Central Seattle area as opposed to the outlying suburbs or any of the islands, but that still covers a LOT of ground.  I'm not particularly a fan of moving (although, who is???) so I want to try and chose the right apartment on my first try.  So as I was walking around I wrote down the names of apartment buildings that seemed nice so I could research them online later.  FYI: this will be the very 1st apartment I've ever lived in!!!  I know it sounds crazy, but unless you count the dorms in college I've never lived in an apartment.  When I got home later, it turned out that some of the places were $2000/month.  Oooops!  But many of the places were within range and by that I mean that a 600 square foot apartment costs the same per month as the mortgage on my 1600 sq ft house with big back yard in Richmond.  Oh, well... that wasn't a surprise to me.
I know it's only be a few days, but I as I walked around I really felt that I made the right decision by coming out here.  It just feels good!  It doesn't hurt that yesterday was actually a beautiful sunny day; I was wearing just a long-sleeve shirt and my sunglasses for a lot of the day.  Also, some nice-looking guy on a bike rode past me and yelled out, "Cutie!" at least I'm pretty sure that's what he said... or I'll pretend it was.

On my way back home (about a 30 minute drive) I stopped for a much needed car wash.  This was my very first time ever going through one!  Can you believe, so many exciting firsts for me.  Hehehehe.  It was a little scary, but now my car looks a little more respectable.
I thought I had seen a lot of the city yesterday, but once I got home and looked at the map I realized I barely scratched the surface.  Perhaps I will have to do some driving tours of the city too, instead of just walking if I'm going to find a nice place to live.

  1. I can't believe you've never been through a car wash before. What are you- Amish?
