Happy Valentine's Day! I celebrated by spending 2 hours in the waiting room at the Honda dealership. Barnaby had noticed that my car was leaking oil, grrrrr.... I've spent SO much time and money dealing with that car lately, I really wasn't looking for another big expense. I told the dealership guy my "sob" story about taking it in to get tons of work done before I left for my trip and then when I got my oil changed in LA the people seemed pretty sketchy and suspiciously fast. He offered to do the diagnostic for free and there was some Honda recall ignition thingy that needed to get done to. Well, they did a super thorough inspection and said that the last guys who changed the oil just didn't put the plug back in all the way. The fixed it all up and didn't charge me thing. Phew! Otherwise, my little car is doing fine :)
A few other random, interesting things have been going on in the Emerald City. Okay, so for Superbowl weekend we had gone to the cabin and I'd met a bunch of guys at Dick's Shop. Well, most of the guys were in their 40s and 50s, but there was one younger guy who was especially chatty. I thought he was just being nice and things seemed innocent enough, but later on my aunt said she could tell that he was eyeing me. She was right! He tracked me down by calling Dick to get Barb and Barnaby's house number. I think we were all a little shocked! He's a perfectly nice guy of course, but just not at all my type. When someone else was giving a description of him I believe the word "blob" came up. Enough said. He wanted to give me a tour of the city since I was new in town. It was a very sweet offer, so there wasn't any way I could really turn it down.
He came and picked me up on Saturday, but since it was a nasty, rainy day he decided on a driving tour. Unfortunately pretty much every place he took me, I'd already been before. I had warned him that all I'd been doing since I got to Seattle was driving around to get a feel for the city, but I guess he still thought he could show me a few things. He did confirm that all of the places I'd been to were the only places worth going to in town so I guess that's good to know. He made sure to point out all the good drinking places, but lamented that he lived too far away to get drunk and cab-it home now. Hmmmm... how old are you dude? 30! Isn't that a little old to be getting wasted in bars? Then as we were driving around he took me out to eat... twice. Yes, that's right, within the span of a few hours we stopped at not one but two different restaurants for food. You know I love to eat, but even I thought that was a little strange. And then, that was the end. I was actually kind of hoping that something more awful and ridiculous would've happened. The way I see it, if you're gonna go out on bad dates you should at least get really good stories out of it. Oh well!
Last night I went to the Pacific Northwest Ballet to see Cinderella. I had bought the tickets a few months ago because I was so excited about living in a town with a real, professional company (my apologies to the Richmond Ballet). It was a lovely show with lots of adorable, dressed-up little girls in the audience. The performance hall itself was also quite impressive; it will only be 0.5 miles from my new apartment so I look forward to going back soon! Also, in honor of Valentine's Day they gave out free champagne during intermission and free chocolate as you were leaving the theater. Definitely worth the $27 ticket price :)
