I managed to get a lot of unpacking accomplished yesterday and today, but there was still one thing preventing the apartment from be inhabitable... cable. Hello, my name is Amanda, and I'm addicted to TV and Internet. Comcast was scheduled to set everything up today between 11 and 1, so I got to the apartment early and just went about my business unpacking, that is, until 1 o'clock rolled around. Hmmmf! Apparently the guy came by, but since my name isn't loaded into call box yet he didn't come up. I have no idea why he didn't just call my cell phone.
The way the building's call box system works is that they program it to go straight to your cell phone. I checked with the building manager and the system only allows for 10 different area codes to be programmed and something tells me that one of those 10 isn't going to be "804". That means I'm gonna have to change my phone number. I'm sorry Jennifer, I know you didn't want me to, but I have no choice. Don't worry, I'll let everyone know my digits once I get them... unless I don't like you.
Anyhow, the cable man eventually made his way back and got me all connected so now I'm writing this from my new apartment. This is the very 1st night that I will be sleeping over. Yay for me! The place is coming together quickly and I should be ready for visitors very soon! The only critical thing I'm missing right now is a shower curtain; I had to be very careful when I took a shower just now. Even so, I still had to do some mopping up. Oooops. Tomorrow I'll be making a big trip to Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
In order to celebrate moving into my new crib, I walked to the fancy shmancy grocery store for some wine, cheese, and freshly baked bread. They actually had two cheesemongers on duty when I stopped by; now that's my kind of store :) Although, at four blocks away it's actually not the closest grocery store to me (I had to pass a Safeway to get there), but I think it's worth the extra distance. I just love being able to walk everywhere!!! There is so much to see explore right here in my neighborhood.
P.S. Not only can I recycle everything at the apartment, but they compost too! Yay for living in a hippie town!
Okay, so... I wasn't going to post about this because I didn't want to jinx it, but I think I've already told most of you anyways. I've had two phone interviews with a company called Dendreon for a really awesome job and I just found out that they want me to come in for a third (in-person) interview. They're not scheduling it until the week of March 21st which seems so far away, but I guess it's a good thing because they expect me to give an hour long presentation. Yikes!! What the heck am I going to talk about for a whole hour?!? Wish me luck.
I had the same area code problem at my old apartment. I dealt with it by not having any friends. They will have to pry my 970 from my cold, dead hands.
